FOSS4G 2018 in Dar – travel information

The 5th of June is the last day for the early bird registration. We trust (and hope!) that many of you will use the favourable rates offered. For us as conference organisers, the earlier you register, the more time we will we have in putting together the most exciting FOSS4G yet! So, let us help you, by you helping you!

Visa to Tanzania

Travelling to Tanzania is quite straightforward. Like many countries there are visas requirements which will vary according to your nationality. Most persons will be able to get a visa on arrival. Some will not.

As a preparation for your travel you will have to research this issue in good time before travelling.

Our advice is that you contact your nearest Tanzanian embassy. Contacting a colleague with your nationality and experience with travelling to Tanzania and is also a good starting point.

Medical issues

It is your responsibility to look up medical advice before travelling to Tanzania. Tanzania is recognised as a Malaria prone country. You will also need a Yellow fever certificate, prior to entry in Tanzania

Ask your doctor for advice on what prophylaxis to use and for a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. Your doctor will also give you advice on other medical issues relevant for your trip.

Welcome!

As a personal note, I have visited Tanzania around 30 times. I have always been met by professional immigration officers – please treat them in the same manner that you would expect to be treated – English may not be a first language for either of you, so speak clearly and slowly with a smile! I expect this to be an experience you will share with me. As always remember to provide relevant information to the immigration officers. Keep your papers available and follow instructions given to you.

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee for FOSS4G 2018 I wish you all good luck in your preparations for the travel to Tanzania.

Remember to register for the Early Bird offer on this page:

Also remember to invite friends and colleagues to our conference.

Karibu! (welcome)
